EventsThames Valley 4x4 Club hold an activity and drive-around event on the first Sunday of every month. Non-members are welcome. The variety of sites should prove to be a challenge to both beginners and experts alike. For each site we have produced a downloadable information sheet. This sheet details how to get to the event and also site specific information - see the Site Information sheet links on the menu on the left. The Club also holds special events such as Fun Trials, Training days and shared events with other clubs, see the calendar below for details of our current event timetable. Always check the news on the front page of this site or our forum. |

Punch Event Regulations
In common with a lot of clubs our insurers require a more formal approach to our events. This is not just a TV4x4 initiative, it will affect all clubs over the coming months. Each event now has associated rules and regulations. Please do not be put off by these, especially if you are new to the hobby or are a beginner. The activities are designed to let you explore your vehicle and driver capabilities by creating a small competitive activity, taking you to areas of the sites you may not otherwise visit. The activities will be suitable for all-comers with some elements being straight forward and others more challenging. You can assess whether you want to do elements of the activities based on your own experience and the capability of your vehicle. Beginners can still be "shown the ropes" and members are more than happy to help or offer rides. The rules for the upcoming punch event are: Orienteering-Punch Event Rules There are some supplementary rules: All vehicles will be subject to a check before the event, if you are a beginner then this is a good time to ask about assistance with your first event/drive. The list below shows the areas that will be checked:
|
| Early start? Mid-morning munchies? Lunch? All our TV4x4 events have a burger-bar in attendance. Why not come along early and treat yourself to a bacon roll and hot coffee before venturing into the mud. |
CB RadioThe marshalls are on 27Mhz UK Channel 10, please restrict chatter on this channel. |
DrivingAt each event members and non-members should first locate the Club caravan and sign-on, remember that each person who wants to drive should also sign-on. On our Promotional Off-Road (Pay and Play) days you are then free to drive the site. If it is your first event then please feel free to ask for help, we will then show you the site or even explain the features of your vehicle to you. In general, everyone over the age of 14 can drive (although they must be accompanied by a fully licenced driver). Beginners may find our downloadable guide useful for your first visit. top |
Don't own a 4x4?Thinking of taking the plunge but not sure what to expect? Why not come along to an event anyway. Call in at the club caravan to be issued with a safety vest and then ask where you can spectate. If you really want to have a go then club members will often be available to give you a ride around the course, an explanation of the hobby or even a drive of a vehicle. top |
MarshallingWe also need marshals at each event. Marshalling involves giving up a small part of the day to assist the flow of vehicles through certain parts of each course. It is not a difficult task and will help ensure that all areas of each site are kept open. Take a look in the GALLERY to see pictures and videos of past events top |
VideosOne feature of the club is our "club video" feature. If you take "mini-DV" material at our events we can make it into a club video You will be fully credited on the video itself. All I need is the tape to copy. Emailed material is not suitable for inclusion in the video as the quality is too low. If you send us a tape it will be sent back by return of post as I only need to copy it. Whilst not wishing to teach you something you already know can I offer the following hints for the best video material. 1. Do not use the zoom too much. It is better to stop filming, zoom, start filming. 2. Do not swing the camera around - stop filming, move camera, start filming 3. Don't just film the cars - do close ups on wheels spinning, people smiling etc etc. 4. Film everything, too much material is great - it edits down nicely. top |
